LONDON POINT OF VIEW
MILL VALLEY, CA
This project, completed for long-time friends, was so much fun. This couple adores London, and was looking for a classical container where their contemporary art collection could shine and provide pops of color. Our goal was to give this house a traditional, refined sense of character without being overly referential.
We are working closely with this beloved family to redesign their existing Mill Valley home, in several phases, to realize their vision. For this first phase we started small, enhancing the front facade with a new trellis and porch to form a stronger sense of place, creating a new entry hall that feels like a jewel box, and realigning the entry sequence to accommodate changes to come in the second phase.
The new entry creates a beautiful sense of transition, while providing space for an entry table and artwork. This home is blessed with gorgeous views of Mt. Tamalpais, so we added large sliding doors to open up the living and dining rooms to the generous back terrace, raising the header to better capture the view. The next phase will add a whole new understory to the home.
