HISTORY WITH A SPLASH OF COLOR

LARKSPUR, CA

For this project, we transformed a 1908 home listed on the historic register into a bright, cheerful family home for an active family of four. The goal was to complement and complete an earlier partial renovation by turning the formerly dark and underutilized entry, living and dining spaces into colorful, welcoming, much-utilized spaces, while maintaining the home’s original historic character.

The majority of the home’s existing casework is now painted a snowy white, while dark wood floors, dark wood accents and original leaded glass reinforce the home’s history. Walls painted in sunny, saturated colors are bright and playful, and a historically-important brick fireplace is newly dressed in casework and a quartzite surround. Expanded interior transitions open up rooms and enhance the flow, new cabinets tucked under the stairs provide additional storage, and existing furnishings are dressed up in new fabrics, with pillows and lighting providing playful pops of color.
